We use systematic approaches when evaluating EKG’s (Rate, Rhythm, Axis, Intervals, P wave, QRS complex, ST segment-T wave, Overall interpretation), 12 Leads (I See All Leads), Ultrasounds or when performing medical and trauma assessments (DCAP-BTLS). This helps to ensure we don’t miss a step or a part of an assessment!
We need to do the same when evaluating Fetal Heart Monitoring Tracings. A great mnemonic to use is: Baby Are Definitely Very Cute
𝐁 -BASELINE
𝐀 -ACCELERATIONS
𝐃– DECELERATIONS
𝐕– VARIABILITY
𝐂– CONTRACTIONS
Over the next several FHM blogs, we will discuss each of the variables included in the Fetal Heart Monitor Tracing Assessment!
